Bridport FM Launch

A great launch to the Bridport FM project

Bridport FM, the new community project run by Bridport Arts Centre and Windrose Rural Media Trust got off to a great start last Tuesday evening when nearly 40 people came to the official launch at the arts centre.

Participants learned about the project’s ambitions to equip local people with the skills they need to make radio programmes and to encourage and support the creation of programmes over the next few months.

Learning Coordinator Kate Wilson who is managing the project said  “we are delighted with the response to Bridport FM so far from all sectors of the community. It seems to have really captured people’s imagination. There were some fantastic suggestions for programmes at the launch – really imaginative – and we look forward to seeing these take shape over the next few months.”

BridportFMShe continues “we are planning to set up an training day for budding programme makers in June and will announce a date for this shortly. In the meantime there is information available our website www.bridport-arts.com/bridport-fm which gives advice on how to begin shaping your ideas.”

The project, funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, offers free training in all aspects of programme making to participants and is being run in conjunction with the Windrose Rural Media Trust. If you would like to be involved or have an idea for a programme, please contact Kate at kate@bridport-arts.com or on 01308 427 183 Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. Your idea could end up on the radio!

A number of courses are being run in the autumn to generate further programme content. These include Writing Drama for Radio led by writer, producer and director Paul Dodgson who has written countless plays for radio and TV and is currently writer-in-residence at Exeter University. There will also be a song-writing course to inspire local bands, musicians and poets. Further information about both of these courses will be available shortly.

The project will culminate in February next year when Bridport FM will broadcast to the town from a studio at the arts centre for one week. All the programmes made in the community will be broadcast and there will be lots of opportunities for live interviews and performances.
