Maritime Mix – London 2012 Cultural Olympiad by the Sea to Deliver Cultural Step Change to Dorset
Maritime Mix – London 2012 Cultural Olympiad by the Sea, with its eclectic mix of over 80 events, 9th March – 9th September 2012, is set to change the face of Dorset’s cultural offering in 2012. Art installations, multi media events and open air performances, synonymous with metropolitan locations, will animate the county better known for its country walks, cream teas and classic beach holidays than its cultural offering.

Featuring local, national and international artists, Maritime Mix will be the largest creative celebration ever experienced in Dorset and along the Jurassic Coast. Locals and visitors will get the chance to interact with New York artist Kurt Perschke’s 15ft inflatable RedBall UK, listen to 1,000 people sing Coastal Voices new compositions by Sonia Slany, John K Miles, John Surnman and Marc Yeats and marvel at Battle for the Winds, a three day outdoor performance of circus and aerial artists, performed by disabled and non-disabled artists on Weymouth beach, as part of the opening celebration before the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic sailing.
The extensive programme of events and creative talent featured in Maritime Mix – London 2012 Cultural Olympiad by the Sea has been made possible by investment and support from the Arts Council England, Legacy Trust UK and local authorities including; Dorset County Council, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council and local tourism partnerships.
This investment and support will not only bring the arts to new audiences and inspire more people to get involved, but it will put local artists on an international stage and generate new partnerships and collaborations, leaving a valuable legacy for the whole cultural sector.
‘The extensive and ambitious Maritime Mix programme will showcase an array of local, national and international creative talent in Dorset and along the Jurassic Coast. It will allow people visiting the area to see how this geographically stunning area can also be the perfect place to enjoy many different aspects of the arts, during this unique and historic moment’ said Richard Crowe, London 2012 Creative Programmer, SW) Creative Producer, Maritime Mix-London 2012 Cultural Olympiad by the Sea
