Bridport FM Wins HLF Support

Bridport Arts Centre is celebrating a £10,000 award from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a 12-month community radio project called Bridport FM – Mapping our Cultural Journey.

The project will offer free training in all aspects of radio programme making to volunteers and will culminate in a temporary radio station, Bridport FM, that will broadcast from the Arts Centre for one week in September 2014.

Building on the success of a pilot project in 2012, the project will see the creation of three series of themed heritage radio programmes exploring the cultural venues in the town, local art heroes and local cultural clubs and societies. Content for the programmes will be determined through a series of Story Sharing sessions led by project volunteers who will be given training in research, interview and recording techniques by project partners Windrose Rural Media Trust.

Kate Wilson, Bridport Arts Centre’s Learning Coordinator said “We are thrilled to receive this funding. Bridport FM will be the flagship project in Bridport Arts Centre’s 40th anniversary year and we hope lots of people will join us in this exciting exploration of the cultural heritage of our town.”

An open evening for anyone who’d like to be involved or learn more about the project will be held at Bridport Arts Centre on Monday 4 November at 6pm.
