Work to replace water mains in Abbotsbury is progressing well and will reach the next stage this week.
This week Wessex Water will be implementing a full road closure on a small section of road at the far end of West Street if you are travelling from Bridport. The closure will remain in place for two weeks.
It has been agreed with Dorset County Council’s highways department and was discussed at the public meetings the company held in the village before the work began.
A full diversion route will be in place and traffic will use the A35 and A354 as an alternative route.
The company’s shuttle bus service, which has been put on to keep residents and visitors connected to the village, will still be running throughout this time and will instead pick up and drop off passengers either side of the closure.
Businesses in the village will still be open as usual and will remain accessible to everyone.
Wessex Water’s design engineer Alan Marler said: “Work is progressing well on site and we would like to thank everyone for their patience while we continue to work in the village.
“We realise that due to the nature of the work there will be some inconvenience caused but we will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum.
“We would also like to remind everyone that businesses in the village remain open as usual.”
To complete the work quickly Wessex Water will be using ‘no-dig’ techniques where possible which will reduce the number of excavations that need to be made in the highway.
