Karen Hansen designs with natural form and sustainable materials to create contemporary furniture and sculptural constructions.
As part of her sculptural work she is now offering workshops in Totem pole carving. The range of courses is open to most ages and abilities. Some sessions are specifically designed for families to be able to work together on communal poles and create their family crest or celebrate a special occasion.
Others are offered as women-only courses. ‘I used to teach joinery in women-only workshops and I am interested in finding out whether there are still women out there, who would like to explore their abilities within the dynamics of the all-women environment.’
Karen has been working with wood since 1980 and her knowledge and experience in teaching the skills involved have been developed over the last 20 years.
