Over 1000 square miles of glorious Dorset in one painting
DORCHESTER artist John Walker has created a masterpiece called ‘Dorset Born’. An 8ft painting to celebrate and promote the county.
The biggest ever contemporary painting of Dorset took nearly two weeks to create. Walker prepared the board himself and used oil and sketches to create the final piece.
Every aspect of the county has been thought through when John was developing the painting. At a glance you will see influences of Hardy, dry stone walling, Sturminster Mill, Eggardon Hill, White Nothe at Ringstead just to name a few.
John Walker was born in Dorchester in 1950 and has always lived in Dorchester. He takes the Dorset landscape as his influence and often uses poems for inspiration.
The painting will be on display at The Pierrepoint Gallery in Bridport from 24th March for one month.

The exhibition called ‘Hare and Bird’ is a collection of John’s work and will be on show from the 24th of March.
