Saturday 3rd – Hip Route – Hip Route incorporate and explore a mix of genres and are never afraid to put their own mark on the music – Blues licks take over from folk stylings; country chords melt into funk grooves, and always with the same positive messages, essentially that life goes on, there is always a sunrise after the dark of night, and most of the things that bring us down are not worth the worry. It is clear from their songs that Hip Route live to play music and play music about life. Shelby’s Elbows are an acoustic duo, made up of Dorset musicians Martin P. Davies and Phil Jeffs. Formed after meeting in various Open Mic nights in 2008, Shelby’s Elbows have developed into a locally well known entertainment duo, playing a variety of instruments and producing an instantly recognisable sound that surprises people when they discover that there’s only two people making it. Saturday 24th – Lil’ Jim’s Big Squeeze – 9:15pm -Formed in October 2009, Lil Jim’s Big Squeeze have already created quite a stir in the UK and Europe. The band have acquired a thriving and enthusiastic fan base which is evident in the audiences of their hometown gigs.
The ‘Big Squeeze’ have been travelling around Europe and in the summer of 2010 played at the Saulieu Cajun and Zydeco Festival in France where they made such an impression that they were invited to play at Europe’s premier Zydeco Festival “Zydeco Zity” in Raamsdonksveer, (Holland) in May 2011, where they headlined the Friday night and blew the roof off!!! Friday 30th – Arnie Cottrell – 9:15pm –
Arnie Cottrell has been playing music for most of his life. He started out on the folk scene of the 60s and 70s where he formed an enduring but interrupted friendship with East end guitarist, singer and songwriter Richard Digance . He went on to play in various Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Reggae, psychedelic psycho outfits, Cajun, Old Timey, Ceilidh outfits before realising that his true love was acoustic music as long as the songs are good. That’s where he is now. He plays acoustic guitar, national tricone , mandolin, mandola and bouzouki and sings, and although what he does is in part blues influenced, he is influenced by just about everything except opera, classical and jazz. Really good!!
