Bridport Arts Centre Launches New Season With Infamous Jazz Artist Sarah Jane Morris
Bridport Arts Centre launches its autumn programme with infamous jazz artist Sarah Jane Morris. Due to Sarah’s phenomenal reputation the Jazz Cafe has been moved from the theatre giving audiences an opportunity to hear her goose bump raising four-octave range.
Famed for her association with The Communards in the mid-80s and infamous for a banned rendition of the classic Me and Mrs Jones, Sarah Jane Morris has always attracted as much attention for her politics as for her soul-driven, seismic voice.
Sarah has released nine solo albums, enjoys pop stardom on the continent, and has a diverse set of musical collaborations on record, film and stage.
Career highlights have included a concert with Chaka Khan and Monserrat Caballe, a performance in front of 10,000 fans in Athens, the Red Wedge Tour, Venice Opera House, The Verona Arena, Taormina Amphitheatre in Sicily, Royal Albert Hall, European Tour with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, numerous sell-out weeks at Ronnie Scott’s Club in London, and the What Women Want concert with Sinead O’Connor and Chrissie Hynde at the Royal Festival Hall.
Programme Manager Margie Barbour said: “I think Sarah has the most wonderful voice and I think it’s wonderful for someone who regularly performs at places such as Ronnie Scotts Club in London is performing in Bridport”

What’s especially galvanic about her singing is the passionate commitment to the song’s narrative, whether it concerns the pro-democracy struggle against Burma’s military junta (‘A World To Win’), the freeing of a wrongly incarcerated Death Row prisoner (‘Never Forget How To Dance’), or a snapshot of an evening fondly remembered (‘Under The Stars’)… the new album is an aural feast.’
