The Churchfitters & the Amazing Mr Smith

A double-bill of music and an eccentricity is on the cards at the Lyric Theatre this Friday 16th November at 8pm.

The Churchfitters are a flamboyant group of musicians from England, Ireland and France who are taking UK audiences by storm with their unique and energetic performances. Four dynamic personalities present a fast-paced infectious show full of fresh, original song-writing as well as rearranged songs and tunes from the British Isles, uniting the rhythms of rock, pop and jazz with the universal appeal of traditional music.

Outstanding vocals and an astonishing array of acoustic instruments including fiddle, double bass, bouzouki, flute, saxophone, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, whistle and mandolin allow them to create their unmistakable sound.
A large dose of humour, a measure of eccentricity and an abiding sense of fun complete the band’s recipe for truly entertaining performances.

The Amazing Mr Smith

Opening the evening with some eccentric instruments of his own, The Amazing Mr Smith has been described as Monty Python’s answer to John Williams! His combination of mad inventions and brilliant acoustic guitar playing make him one of the funniest and most original entertainers around.   The cardboard tube double bass, the musical shoelaces, the nutcracker played on the tu-tu xylophone and his 3-minute rendition of Riverdance have to be seen to be believed.

As well as being on the comedy circuit for at least 10 years, he has made people laugh in every conceivable type of venue in the UK, performed on local and national TV and toured the USA five times (also Holland , Germany, Norway and Jordan). Although his act is very visual, he was recently asked to play some of his bizarre instruments on Ned Sherrin’s ‘Loose Ends’.

Tickets are £12 and are available from the Lyric Theatre Barrack Street, Bridport Music South Street, online at www.the-lyric.com or call 01308 423951
