A talk by Dr Lewis Dartnell

2.30pm Saturday 14 November Dr. Lewis Dartnell is a research scientistpresenter and author.  He is currently a UK Space Agency research Fellow at the University of Leicester, working in the field of astrobiology and the search for microbial life on Mars. As a celebrated author, Dartnell has won prizes from The Daily Telegraph, Oxford University Press, New Scientist and Times Higher Education.

Dr Dartnell will talk about his acclaimed book ‘The Knowledge’ which explores the fundamentals of civilization and how we would rebuild it should the world come to an end.

Dartnell said, “Living in the modern world, we have become disconnected from the basic processes that support our lives, as well as the beautiful fundamentals of science that enable you to relearn things for yourself.  The Knowledge is a journey of discovery, a book which explains everything you need to know about everything. It is a quickstart guide for rebooting civilisation which will transform your understanding of the world – and help you prepare for when it’s no longer here…”

REVIEWS OF THE KNOWLEDGE:

“An extraordinary achievement. With lucidity and brevity, Dartnell explains the rudiments of a civilisation. It is a great read even if civilisation does not collapse. If it does, it will be the sacred text of the new world — Dartnell that world’s first great prophet.”The Times

“This is the most inspiring book I’ve read in a long time.”The Independent

“A whistle-stop tour of the history of science and technology … full of those “oh!” moments, when you think, “well, I never thought of that before”.  I am sure almost everyone will find something to surprise them in this book.” – The Telegraph
