A NEW cheese from Ashley Chase Estate in Litton Cheney near Dorchester has won the prestigious national Tesco Cheese Challenge and will be available in Tesco stores across the UK.
Ashley Chase Goat Cheddar with Cranberry won the best-flavoured cheese category and then went on to become the overall winner.
The win puts Ashley Chase firmly on the map of national speciality cheese makers.
Winner
Company owner Mike Pullin said: ‘It’s great to win one category because the competition is really tough but being named the overall winner is something special. As a result, our Goat Cheddar with Cranberry will be stocked in Tesco stores all over the country which is great for our reputation and for the local economy in Dorset.’
Creamy and Tart
Mike describes the cheese as sweet and fresh, combining a creamy goat’s cheddar with tart cranberries. This cheese is a welcome addition to any cheese board or, grilled on toast, creates a delicious variation on a favourite snack.
Jo Wren, Tesco regional marketing manager, southern England said: ‘Every year we get a fantastic level of entries and it’s truly satisfying when you see the winning cheese go in-store and shoppers get the chance to taste a cheese that they wouldn’t have tried without the challenge.’
Look out in your local Tesco store for Ashley Chase Goat Cheddar with Cranberry from October 2009.
