Pleasing news for NOWTS and BPC – The Highways Agency, who have always been quoted by DCC as being opposed to any waste transfer site being accessed directly off the A35 have now writen to say that are not opposed to that, (subject to certain conditions). This removes the central plank of DCC's argument that Gore Cross is the best and only place for the new facility to go.
This means that on the DCC table of site rankings, all the A35 sites which were previously in low positions on the list, now move up and Gore Cross moves right down. The highways Agency will require full traffic impact assessments and mitigation measures for any A35 site.
So now we have to persuade the county that it is worth spending the money to build the waste station on the best site. When you think that they were going to spend a lot of extra money and acquire extra land to avoid the problems with services on the Gore Cross site, a proper junction / roundabout on the A35 might not look that expensive
Where should our waste go?
Bearing in mind that most waste from this area ends up in the waste processing plant at Wimborne. Here is a list of potential sites from DCC
