HOMEBREW

It being almost elderflower making time I used to go to Spar on South street where they had a good home brewing section and get citric acid to make the cordial. Does anyone know where I can go for home brewing now that the shop has closed? Have you, gentle reader got any good recipes for homebrew? Preferably something a little more highbrow than this jail house hooch.

This website has also received communications from worried hostelries about people slagging off Palmers Beer, but you drink it nevertheless. So PLEASE VOTE IN THE "WHAT'S YOUR POISON?" POLL IN THE LEFT HAND COLUMN – (If your poison is not listed tell us in a comment below).

 1. I would like to know too, now even Boots seem to have stopped stocking homebrew stuff! Going back many years wasn’t there a shop next to the Arts Centre just for homebrew stuff? Now the posh sandwich shop! I like the recipes in roger Phillips “”””Wild Food””””, good Elderflower wine one, a must is stinging nettle soup.

 2. You can buy everything you need at Ceres Healthfood Shop in Yeovil. Including citric acid, although when I needed citric acid for a wine recipe and didn’t have any, I just added the juice and rind of a couple of lemons.

 3.
Well ooaargh, I hope we are not going to have a rash of ‘protests’ in somerfields
It could have been a “”””rash”””” that made him do it, you know, all that scratching!

 4. There may be no citric acid but, if it is of any condolence, I have plenty of vitrioloc, acid-ic, alcohol induced points to make, and long may the BR website allow me to do just that. Mr Head I would be delighted to share some home brew with you and will do just as soon as I have made some and allowed it long enough to ferment.

 5. Sorry Rustic but a personal attack is a personal attack wether or not you can’t see the person.I didn’t think that I had posted ‘up to a point’.I love a heated debate as much as the next person but don’t see that that should involve trying to humiliate people. It is no different than going up to someone in the street and smacking them in the mouth because you don’t like the look of them. Also I didn’t ‘run’ to anyone but made a point and was asked if it could be put online, which I agreed to.I wasn’t asking for anyone to be barred etc. My argument was not about being agreed with but being belittled for not being as’clever’ as some. (will send you loving thoughts at all times rusticxxx)

 6. oh no…! I am being conned, thats my trouble I am too gullible, but he (the gull with a flattop featherstyl) was so charming.. drat!! pay you to go away? well if you were soiling my laundry from a height, i would not only suggest that trip to the doctor, but would insist on driving you there myself.. what doctor? thats the next problem?

 7. Hey,.. Goin back to the request for recipes…. I’ve a great one called ‘Poor Man’s Brandy’ trouble is it takes three LONG years to mature…. apparently its worth it though.. It’s in a book by old wine making Expert Ben Turner “”””Home Made Wines and Beers”””” If anyone couldn’t locate a copy of this book I’d be happy to photocopy and post the recipe…. it’s a bit long winded to post on here……… NB Lurve the link to ‘The Modern Drunkard’s Magazine’ by th way….

 8. I have several Old, rank, seriously suspect home brews (Wines – for want of a more suitable description..) made over th last 20 years..(well at least ten!) and I would like to enter them, and myself, into the Bridport drinkin contest as prev mentioned in said Cellar Bar….. too clammy for th old woodburner though ain’t it at th minute..?

 9. Right then let’s get this home brew thang together. What about Friday 7th December? Tell us what you’re bringing and how much so we can get a feel for the amount of aspirin we need to order in. By the way – smoking in my bar is compulsory – if you want to not smoke you have to stand outside, but as I wouldn’t want to cramp your rights you can take your drink outside with you.
