It being almost elderflower making time I used to go to Spar on South street where they had a good home brewing section and get citric acid to make the cordial. Does anyone know where I can go for home brewing now that the shop has closed? Have you, gentle reader got any good recipes for homebrew? Preferably something a little more highbrow than this jail house hooch.
This website has also received communications from worried hostelries about people slagging off Palmers Beer, but you drink it nevertheless. So PLEASE VOTE IN THE "WHAT'S YOUR POISON?" POLL IN THE LEFT HAND COLUMN – (If your poison is not listed tell us in a comment below).

I would like to know too, now even Boots seem to have stopped stocking homebrew stuff! Going back many years wasn’t there a shop next to the Arts Centre just for homebrew stuff? Now the posh sandwich shop! I like the recipes in roger Phillips “”””Wild Food””””, good Elderflower wine one, a must is stinging nettle soup.
Chemists will no longer sell you Citric acid as it is used as a cutting agent by drug dealers.
You can buy everything you need at Ceres Healthfood Shop in Yeovil. Including citric acid, although when I needed citric acid for a wine recipe and didn’t have any, I just added the juice and rind of a couple of lemons.
I use a website burghley-homebrew.com. I have found them very good reasonably priced and quick to deliver
How about : Bountiful Real Estate Is Delightfully Priced, Often Ridiculously Thrifty (rofl – nice one, do you want a mug? – Ed)
I have a home made elderberry that I would like to enter into the inaugaral Bridport Piss Pot Homebrewer’s Competition.
Well ooaargh, I hope we are not going to have a rash of ‘protests’ in somerfields
It could have been a “”””rash”””” that made him do it, you know, all that scratching!
There may be no citric acid but, if it is of any condolence, I have plenty of vitrioloc, acid-ic, alcohol induced points to make, and long may the BR website allow me to do just that. Mr Head I would be delighted to share some home brew with you and will do just as soon as I have made some and allowed it long enough to ferment.
Sorry Rustic but a personal attack is a personal attack wether or not you can’t see the person.I didn’t think that I had posted ‘up to a point’.I love a heated debate as much as the next person but don’t see that that should involve trying to humiliate people. It is no different than going up to someone in the street and smacking them in the mouth because you don’t like the look of them. Also I didn’t ‘run’ to anyone but made a point and was asked if it could be put online, which I agreed to.I wasn’t asking for anyone to be barred etc. My argument was not about being agreed with but being belittled for not being as’clever’ as some. (will send you loving thoughts at all times rusticxxx)
Regarding the homemade Elderberry wine I mentioned in a previous post. It’s now gone 🙁

Hey,.. Goin back to the request for recipes…. I’ve a great one called ‘Poor Man’s Brandy’ trouble is it takes three LONG years to mature…. apparently its worth it though.. It’s in a book by old wine making Expert Ben Turner “”””Home Made Wines and Beers”””” If anyone couldn’t locate a copy of this book I’d be happy to photocopy and post the recipe…. it’s a bit long winded to post on here……… NB Lurve the link to ‘The Modern Drunkard’s Magazine’ by th way….
Hey MCF… Photo copy said Recipe and Post it up on th notice boards in Bucky Doo Square will yer…!
Hey Goccibos…. what be th alcohol content of that Stinging Nettle Soup… ?
I have several Old, rank, seriously suspect home brews (Wines – for want of a more suitable description..) made over th last 20 years..(well at least ten!) and I would like to enter them, and myself, into the Bridport drinkin contest as prev mentioned in said Cellar Bar….. too clammy for th old woodburner though ain’t it at th minute..?
Polecat depends on how much Vodka you add (not in the book I know!)
Right then let’s get this home brew thang together. What about Friday 7th December? Tell us what you’re bringing and how much so we can get a feel for the amount of aspirin we need to order in. By the way – smoking in my bar is compulsory – if you want to not smoke you have to stand outside, but as I wouldn’t want to cramp your rights you can take your drink outside with you.
