Its all systems go for what promises to be the biggest and best Anonymous yet. This Saturday Dorchester’s free youth festival once again takes over Maumbury Rings for a day, to bring the best young musicians, dancers, artists and activities the county town can offer, and its all FREE!!
Adam Harris, Chair of Dorchester Youth Extra said: “The Anonymous festival is really fun and a great way to get people in Dorset together. Dorchester Youth Extra really love being involved in this event. Since we put out an announcement for bands earlier in the year we’ve been flooded with requests, the only downside has been having to turn some great acts down.”
One of the highlights of this years festival are Maverick Slacklines who will be giving everyone a chance to try their hand at Slackline, an extreme balance sport that has its World Championships in Sandbanks this September.
The group describe the sport as the art of balancing on a flat line of webbing tensioned between two anchor points. The use of webbing makes it different to the classic tightrope or wire balancing. The nature of the webbing and its tension means that it is stretchy and bouncy, like a trampoline. These differences mean is has developed completely different styles and tricks to that of the more commonly recognised circus arts.
As well as Slacklining visitors can try out Free Running, Graffiti Art, Craft activities, Giant Sumo and loads more.
On the music front this years headliners are local boys Thomas and the Mock Ups. Leo from the band said: “We are really stoked that we have been invited to play the Dorchester Anonymous festival and better still being asked to headline. Maumbury Rings is the one of the most awesome venues we have been lucky enough to play in.”
“There are so many gifted and talented young musicians in Dorchester and its surrounding villages, that without events like Anonymous would not get to show case their works to the general public, friends, colleagues and family. We are living in turbulent times and the voices of the younger generation need to be heard.”
Joining the Mock Ups on the stage will be Jack Harrison, Sarah Pardoe, Epic Journey and many more, while an open mic area will be running for budding young musicians to play.
Emma Scott, Community Development Officer for West Dorset District Council said: “Young people from Dorchester Youth Extra really wanted to build on the success of last two years Anonymous Festival, and we have really pulled out all the stops to make this an event that has something for everyone.”
“Brilliant local bands and DJ’s, amazing activities, stunning performers and much more. Its all free so you’d be mad not to join us in Maumbury Rings on Saturday and experience the whole event for yourselves.”
Emma Scott can be contacted on 01305 252204. Anonymous 2011 will be held in Maumbury Rings on 27th Aug. from 11.00 a.m. –9.00 p.m. .
