NTL 50th Anniversary Encore: The Habit of Art
Thursday 7th November
Doors 6pm, starts 7pm
£8 +bf advance / £10 on door
National Theatre Live’s 2010 broadcast of Alan Bennett’s acclaimed play The Habit of Art, with Richard Griffiths, Alex Jennings and Frances de la Tour, returns to cinemas as part of the National Theatre’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Benjamin Britten, sailing uncomfortably close to the wind with his new opera, Death in Venice, seeks advice from his former collaborator and friend, W H Auden. During this imagined meeting, their first for 25 years, they are observed and interrupted by, amongst others, their future biographer and a young man from the local bus station.
The Orb + special guests
Friday 8th November
Doors from 7pm
£22 +bf advance / £24 on door
The Orb, long time veterans of the electronic music scene celebrate 25 years since their first hit “Little Fluffy Clouds”. Support comes from Psychemagik and Darren Sangita of “Sangita sounds” and Pip Rolf of “Tropicalhotdodpayday” from Manchester.

Alex Paterson prides the Orb on manipulating obscure samples beyond recognition on its albums and during its concerts; his unauthorised use of other artists’ works has led to disputes with musicians, most notably with Rickie Lee Jones. During its live shows of the 1990s, the Orb performed using digital audio tape machines optimised for live mixing and sampling before switching to laptops and digital media. Despite changes in performance method, the Orb maintained its colourful light shows and psychedelic imagery in concert. These visually intensive performances prompted critics to compare the group to Pink Floyd.
The UK duo, known for their sensational disco and psychedelic edits, obscenely vast record collections, beautiful production work and transcendent mixtape journeys, are being heralded as a truly unique and positive presence in today’s music scene.
