Ecocentrics ‘The Fruit of Paradise’ Come and celebrate Apple Day and the exotic stories, poems and songs associated with this most ancient of fruits in an evening of wassail, exuberant traditional music and beyond! This lively and unpredictable musical evening takes us on an apple journey from the wild forests of Kazakhstan via the silk roads, through myth and legend into the cider orchards of Avalon.
Discover intriguing tales of culture and genetic diversity alongside the instrumental virtuosity of well known accordionist Paul Hutchinson, violinist John Hymas, clarinettist Karen Wimhurst and the bewitching voice of ballad singer Emily Portman. With writing from poet James Crowden, this work has been commissioned by Screen Bites and Common Ground to celebrate 21 years of the calendar custom Apple Day.
For this special evening the composer Karen Wimhurst has brought together a quartet of top performers from the folk world, well-known for their innovative contributions to traditional music (Belshazzar’s Feast, Hoover the Dog, The Cauld Blast Orchestra and Waterson Carthy, amongst others).
