Hutchings and Son

Folk Legend Ashley Hutchings to Perform with Son at Bridport Arts Centre

Saturday 29 September, 8pm

Ashley Hunchings was a founder member of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and The Albion Band. He directed the music for The Natioanl Theatre’s musical adaptation of Flora Thompson’s “Lark Rise To Candleford”. He is also the man contributed for discovering one of the greatest talents the English music scene has ever had – Nick Drake.

Clearly “The Guv’nor” has made a huge contribution to Folk/Rock music. However, he hasn’t finished just yet and he’s gradually passing the torch to son Blair Dunlop.

Blair began playing guitar at the age of six and grew up around the music  of The Albion Band. Blair began his career in entertainment in the film industry, in Tim Burton’s production of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, playing the part of young Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp). After leaving school he then decided to follow a career in music with his first EP being released in the summer of 2010 and the follow up ‘Bags Outside the Door’ a year later.

Blair has just completed a short tour of Italy and performed at the Southbank Centre at the ‘In Search of Nic Jones’ tribute concert. He has supported acts such as Fairport Convention, Cara Dillon and Georgie Fame and is a finalist of the 2012 Radio 2 Young Folk Award.

The duo will perform a programme of songs and instrumentals that the two of them have written.

Ashley said “When I knew I was going to play some gigs with my son Blair I started to make a short list of the most suitable places. Bridport Arts Centre was high on that list and I am delighted that this special venue agreed to a concert featuring Blair and myself. I have played this characterful venue a good number of times stretching back to the 1980s and have always enjoyed the experience.”

Tickets are available from www.bridport-arts.com or from the Arts Centre box office, 01308 424204 priced £12/ £10 members/ £8 concessions.
