October 6th the 2nd Big Green Apple Day which is a family green fair crossed with an apple day, celebrating sustainability, outdoor learning, green and traditional heritage skills, busking musicians and local people … it is a fundraiser for the Discovery Area at Thorners School in Litton Cheney which has been a voluntary project run by a few families to regenerate an acre of very overgrown land into an outdoor learning space and wildlife haven which is open for use by local groups and cluster schools by arrangement.
This year, the money raised at the BGADay will go towards a community build of a Saxon hut to bring history alive for both the children and staff at thorners but also for cluster schools & community groups who would like to use it…so our BGAday this year has a history twist to it and we are searching for any willing volunteers who might like to help us on the day run stalls, donate raffle prizes but also come along to the event posing as characters from history ~ any era / any occasion … thought it would be fun for the kids to meet these people and children could collect autographs from them etc… is there anyway you could help us advertise our plea ?! i really want to raise the profile of this event, which was great fun last year
we are also looking for traditional crafts people to come along with stalls and demos ~ wood turners, bell tent makers, etc, conservation groups, gifts stalls, solar powered stalls, willow workers, and people who can give children’s activities at a small charge, and anyone who would just like to come along and busk etc etc
the day promises local hot foods from jalopy and the Albion Curry Bus, local cider, an ancient trade stall, ancient Wessex network history village, bushcraft for kids, den building, pottery painting, storytelling, Dorset forest school, all things appley, lashings of apple cake & fritters and cream, loads of hands on have a go activities, stalls, and lots of live music from the Buckydonts & impromptu and lots of buskers, young & old. we also have butterflies and moths and birds of prey.
