It is Easter Family Fun Day at Lyme Regis Museum on Wednesday April 4. From Easter chicks to first swallows, birds will be everywhere! Make and decorate your own Easter bird to take and hang up at home. Free admission for adults and children and free art materials. No need to book, just drop into the museum any time between 11am and 3pm and get creative with local artist Alison Bowskill.
The first museum Rockpooling sessions of the summer are on Wednesday April 4 leaving the museum at 10am, Wednesday April 11 at 3pm and Thursday April 12 at 4pm with marine biologist Chris Andrew and geologist Paddy Howe. See at close quarters the magical world of creatures like velvet swimming crabs and squat lobsters that lie in the wake of the receding tide. The sessions last around 1½ hours. Fossil experts Paddy Howe and Chris Andrew will be conducting their famous fossil hunting walks on Thursday April 5 at 9.30am, Friday April 6 at 10.15am, Monday April 9 at 12.30pm and Tuesday April 10 at 1.15pm. Join them to find your own 150-million-year-old fossil. For adults and children alike, it’s an unforgettable experience. Walks last around 3 hours. On Saturday April 7 Lyme Regis Museum celebrates the town’s most famous fossil hunter with a Mary Anning Walk. Join guide Natalie Manifold and explore the paths and streets of Old Lyme as Mary knew them and learn about the life of the ‘greatest fossil hunter ever known’. The walk leaves the museum at 1.30pm and takes about 1½ hours. Also on Saturday April 7 the museum’s fossil experts Paddy Howe and Chris Andrew invite you to ‘Know Your Fossils’ at 2.30pm. This is a talk with lots of real fossils to handle and tips on how to find and identify your own. They would especially like you to bring along your own fossil discoveries for identification. This talk lasts around an hour – no booking needed. No extra charge, just normal admission price to the museum: adults £3.95; seniors £3.45; children and students free.
