Explore the ancient history of the South Coast’s highest peak
On Wednesday 16th April at 10.30am, National Trust regional archaeologist, Martin Papworth, will be giving a guided walk to explore the historic landscape of the Golden Cap estate. The walk is part of the ‘Drawing Inspiration’ project, organised by Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which encourages people to look at our local landscape from a new perspective.
Martin will be giving an insight in to the past excavations that have taken place on Golden Cap and talking about the hamlet of Stanton St Gabriel which dates back to 1086.
National Trust Ranger, Sarah Kennedy said, “We’re very excited that Martin Papworth is coming to lead a walk on the Golden Cap Estate. He has so much experience and knowledge about the history of this landscape and has been involved in many archaeological digs in the area.”
