The evening that is IF bursts back into Bridport’s Unitarian Chapel for their Summer Soltice celebration on Saturday 21st June at 7.30pm, with alternative music performances beginning with special guests SECLUDED BRONTE; an amalgamation of The Bohman Brothers and Richard Thomas performing an all-improvised set with their highly imaginative soundpool.
“It’s hard to describe the raw, explosive audio art they perpetrate. Everyday objects and sounds are worked on until they become saturated with lurid suggestion, resulting in a bizarre, hysterical immediacy.”
Ben Watson, The Wire Magazine, March 2002.
Continuing the evening’s histrionics will be PETE UM, sermonising his musical wares from the chapel pulpit and joining IF for the very first time to tease and beguile us with his trussed up washing line of mini-epics. Pete Um is a master of the miniature electro-acoustic song-poem, a form he has more or less invented and crystallised himself, his work displays a sardonic wit combined with a healthy misanthropy in micro-collages of voice, instruments, samples, and electronics.

For the fireside finale, the inevitable warm hoe-down of pop delights that are ERGO PHIZMIZ AND SIMON SIMON performing their tunes on banjo, sax, Casio beats and Phizmiz gargle. A mash up of genre’s and timbres. A barnyard banjo strum here, a casio beat there, some delicate sexy sax embroidery dancing around the edges only to have the Phizmiz veneer it with Croon and Punk.
Ergo’s IF gig will be a welcome letting down of the hair from his busy June activity, namely the release of his album “Peacock” on Care in the Community records on June 9th, his release of “2 Quartets” on Vinyl on Discrepant records, a live radio broadcast of his “Hollywood Bestiary” piece commissioned by Bayerischer Rundfunk German Radio, performed in Munich on June 7th, and a 10 day opera creation residency at the Hay festival at the end of May.
