Is Your Home Green?

Bridport Open Eco-Homes are looking for people who are willing to open their homes to visitors for one or two days in September. If you have done something to make your house greener, perhaps put in extra insulation, or a solar water heater, or rainwater recovery, and are willing to show it to visitors, then Transition Town Bridport would like to hear from you. They are particularly keen on people who have converted draughty and leaky houses into cosy and efficient homes with low energy bills. Please ring Sam Wilberforce at 01308 898368 or email admin@transitiontownbridport.co.uk

There will be an Eco-Homes stall in BuckyDoo square in Bridport on Saturday 22 February, 10.00-3.00 with a solar panel display and experts to give advice on insulating your house and suggest how you could lower your energy bills. If you are thinking of opening your home, this is an opportunity to discuss it with the organisers.

Last September, 19 homes took part of the Open EcoHomes event in Bridport and Dorchester, and received over 800 visits. Comments included

“It is amazing what can be done with a small budget and free materials”;

“Very interesting and knowledgeable presentation by the owner”

“Easy- to- achieve improvements, practical advice, enormously helpful and confidence giving”.

Ali Cameron, a local Film maker, along with Pete West, DCC’s Renewable Energy Development Officer , and Sally Cooke from GreenDor,  have made a film of Open EcoHomes, with interviews with some of the hosts. There will be a free showing of the film at Bridport Arts Centre on Thursday 6 March at 6.00pm.
