Circle of Tales

A myth from Africa. It all started so long ago that it is impossible to remember when. There were no stories at that time. One day a woman, called Mazanendaba, set out to search for stories asking friendly and fierce animals if they could help, but none knew any stories, or even WHAT stories were.

After hunting up and down mountains, through thick bush, meeting many scary and funny creatures, she was told by wise Elephant where to find the secret of wonderful tales to tell…

Puppetcraft, the top Devon-based puppet troupe, present their highly acclaimed new show; a tale told with African and English words and song, wood and wire puppets, video projection and the sweet, sweet sounds of live music played on traditional African instruments. The show is perfect for everyone from 4 years old and their families.

PuppetCraft has been delighting family audiences for 21 years with a wide variety of shows including “The Mousehole Cat”, “The Tin Forest”, “The Pied Piper”, “Perseus”, “The Selfish Giant” and “Nobody Rides the Unicorn”. Now see them this half term as they return to Dorset once more.

‘Mazymeg & The Honey Bees’

A magical adventure from an ancient land

Angel Heart Theatre has become well known to Artsreach audiences of Dorset with their tales of Oshima, Malina’s Dream and Nutjellynana.  Now this half term the company are back in Dorset with the delightful tale of Mazymeg and the Honey Bees.

Albert lives with his honeybees on Dartmoor, a mysterious land where nothing is as it seems. One day a stranger appears and steals the bees, and it’s as though the light has gone from Albert’s world. But someone else visits him that day, a little Pixie girl called Mazymeg. She promises to find his bees, for she knows who the stranger is – Dark Dewer, the wicked wizard of the Moor. Weaving threads of Devon folklore and song with music and shape-shifting puppetry, Mazymeg is a spellbound tale from an ancient land.

‘Tis said on Dartmoor that to get lost is to be pixie-led’. So join Angel Heart and lose your way with Mazymeg and all the characters she meets as she tries to bring home Albert’s bees this half term.
